Overarmed Wheelchair by Michael Jean Cooper

These amazing sculptures are carved by Michael Jean Cooper from Richmond, California, USA.

Michael Jean CooperMichael Jean Cooper was born in 1943.
In 1966-1968 he was student and graduate assistant in San Jose State College.
By 1977 Cooper was teaching sculpture at DeAnza College in Cupertino, California.

Sculpture ” Gunshy ” was constructed in 1996 with approximately 4000 individual pieces of wood.
Construction took around 2200 hours over a 9 month period.
Forty eight varieties of domestic and exotic hardwoods were used for color, figure and grain.

Quote about Michael Jean Cooper from another pages:

” A Neo-Leonardo Da Vinci of his time, Cooper’s spectacular mastery of many materials and imagination is pure eye Candy!
” Cooper’s work initially seems more craft than art.
But beyond the wooden motorcycles and pistols lies a subtle sense for erotic humor, and a crazy belief that his handmade vehicles will actually be roadworthy. “
